Wasting money in self pay private healthcare. Do's and dont's. Part 2.
Once you've seen your private doctor, it's quite common for them to arrange tests or referral on to a colleague. This can be even more expensive than your original consultation. You have to ask yourself is this really required? Can my GP arrange these tests or referrals? Your specialist will always defend his or hers actions by saying things like "we have to rule out something serious etc". But what was the point of seeing them then, what about clinical acumen and experience? Private Hospitals tally up how much each specialist makes for them in tests, procedures, operations etc., per quarter. If you don't keep up with your peers they will drop you. So specialists are being squeezed harder and harder. But that's not your fault.
