Diseased tonsils with tonsil stones and sore throats

I have no real doubt that this picture shows sore looking tonsils with deep holes, causing tonsil stones and chronic tonsillitis. It can't be a good thing. They need treatment, which means surgery. But the standard dissection tonsillectomy, still by far the commonest way of removing tonsils world-wide, is dangerous, and very painful. So is it better to just put up with the symptoms/ or is there a less invasive alternative which means the risks are dramatically reduced? I perform intra capsular laser vapourisation tonsillectomy, under local anaesthetic spray only, where possible, for that very reason. Return to work straight away afterwards - no real down time.
