Big tonsils with crypts causing tonsil stones and bad breath.
These crypts in the tonsil look deep, but actually relative to the size of the tonsil they are quite shallow. A stone can be seen lying in one of the crypts. This should be quite straightforward to treat with laser vapourisation of the tonsil surface with local anaesthetic spray, removing the crypt and surrounding tonsil. The patient also suffered with tonsillitis, that is harder to cure with this technique, 3 or 4 treatments will be required to bring the tonsils down to a negligible size. However the procedure is easy, takes 10 minutes and the patient can go straight back to studies or work afterwards. Mild soreness for 5 days after, paracetamol is used for pain, almost all patients eat normally throughout.
